Mystery Incorporated

The Scooby Doo franchise has a new animated series on cartoon network. If you haven't watched it yet, it has its pros and cons. I have waited and watched a few episodes before jumping in. In my humble opinion, it is not as good as the original or What's New Scooby Doo, but it is better than the Scrappy Doo series and A Pup Named Scooby Doo.

On the plus, side the animation is very good. It has the look and feel of the Scooby Doo video games. The monsters are all new and it is not just a re-hashing of the old series. It is unique and fun. Also, it is Scooby Doo.

On the negative side, it does not have the layers or depth of humor that we had in What's New Scooby Doo. That series was quick witted and clever and often poked fun at itself. Mystery Incorporated is much more formalistic and the only jokes seem to be about eating and being scared.

The other distracting part is the almost overbearing story of unrequited love. In this series, Daphne is pursuing Fred, who is oblivious. Also, in a new twist the Velma and Shaggy are or are trying to be a couple. This just does not work for me.

While I am disappointed in parts, I find my self watching it week after week.

It's on Monday nights at 9 on Cartoon Network. Watch it and let us know what you think.
