Daphne Blake

Who played Daphne Daphne's Relatives

Daphne from Scooby Doo is one of the original and key characters in the Scooby Doo tv series. Daphne Blake is portrayed as coming from a wealthy family and is easily recognized by her red hair, purple outfit, hands on hip pose, fashion sense, and knack for getting into danger.  The latter has earned her the nickname "Danger Prone Daphne."

Daphne Blake along with Fred Jones, Shaggy Rogers, Velma Dinkley, and Scooby-Doo, are commonly referred to as the Scooby Gang. The gang solves mysteries. More often than not, the gang stumbles upon the mysteries.

Each member of the gang has a well-defined role. Fred is the leader, Velma has the brains, and Scooby and Shaggy are the comic relief and "live bait" for catching villains. Although Daphne is a prominent character, her role in crime solving is not clear. The closest would be damsel in distress.

Daphne is the character most likely to fall through a trap door or get kidnapped. Many episodes picture Daphne tied up. This trait is, in large part, earned her the nickname "Danger-prone Daphne."

Daphne Blake's tendency to get into trouble is apparently something of a Blake family trait. In Scooby-Doo and the Loch Ness Monster, Daphne's cousin Shannon explained:

"For centuries we Blakes have been falling through trap doors, finding secret passageways, getting kidnapped, and getting caught in overly complicated booby traps of our own design. If there's one thing we Blakes are famous for it's being — how should I put this? — danger prone."

In the later Scooby Doo series, Daphne is more confident and starts playing a more active role in the gang, although she retains her keen sense of style and fashion. For example, in What's New, Scooby Doo?, Daphne becomes quite good at picking locks or performing other tasks with strange items from her purse. Daphne also becomes very athletic and a black belt in martial arts in the Scooby Doo movies.

This is in stark contrast to the youthful Daphne portrayed in A Pup Named Scooby Doo who routinely had her butler, Jinkins, to do various tasks, such as ridding her of people, beating a monster up, freaking out, or whatever needed to be done.

Daphne Blake's wealth is inherited. Her father is the creator of Blake Bubbles, an extremely popular and lucrative bath product.
