Scooby Doo is the great dane at the heart of the long-running Scooby Doo series.   Scooby Doo was originally supposed to be called “Too Much.” However, it is reported that the name change came after a CBS executive heard the ad-lib “doo-be-doo-be-doo” at the end of Frank Sinatra's song "Strangers in the Night." The decision was then made to change his name.

In the A Pup Named Scooby Doo series, Scooby Doo was owned by Shaggy's parents.  For that reason, Scooby and Shaggy are a lot alike and stick together in most episodes. Whenever the gang splits up Scooby and Shaggy are most often paired together.  Scooby Doo was born at the Knittingham puppy farm, which was owned by Knittingham.  His family home is Scooby Manor, where his GrandDad Scooby resides.

Although Scooby can talk, he has some difficulty with pronunciation and tends start most words with the letter “R.” For example --“Rive Rait” instead of “Live Bait.”The exception is his name, he can Scooby Doo with the best of them.
