The Backstage Rage is the ninth episode in the "Scooby Doo Where Are You?" series. Spoiler Alert - this Scooby Doo episode guide contains details of the show.
Scooby and Shaggy are walking home from the pizza parlor when a car drives by, hits a bump, and out pops a violin case from an open window. When the two open the case, they find a stash of new $20 bills.
Shaggy leaves Scooby to guard the case and he goes to the pay phone (before the days of cellphones) to call the rest of the gang. While he is on the phone, the mysterious car comes back. A small, girl dog suddenly appears and begins limping like she is hurt. Of course, Scooby Doo goes to her aid. When Scooby is not looking, the dog, the violin case, and the car all disappear.
When Daphne and rest of the gang arrive, Scooby tells them the story of the girl dog. After a little bit of searching, they find a controller for a puppet with the name of a local theater on it. The gang visits the theater and discovers that the theater and puppet master are all part of a counterfeiting operation.
- The Monster: The Phantom of the Puppet Theater and all of his scary puppets.
- The Villain: The puppet master Mr. Pietro.
- Why: Pietro was using the puppet theater for his counterfeiting operation.
Scooby dresses up as an actor in a cape at the very end of this episode. What a ham.
The episode does not reveal who unmasks the villain. Pietro is shown already unmasked in the back of a police car.
Scooby gets 1 Scooby snack, supposedly no strings attached. However, Daphne throws it in an orchestra to make him look around for the puppet master.
