Spooky Space Kook

Spooky Space Kook is episode number 15 from the original Scooby Doo television series. Spoiler Alert - this Scooby Doo episode guide contains details of the show.

An alien space ship passes slowly just above the horizon. Then a glowing skeleton in an astronaut suit starts walking towards the screen laughing maniacally.

The gang are low on gas when they stumble upon an old farm house. The gang sets out looking for assistance only to discover an old timer with a shot gun demanding that they get off his property. The man thinks they are reporters investigating the alien mystery.

Velma and Fred quickly convince him that they are not reporters. However, they find glowing alien footprints on the man's property, which soon disappear. With a mystery on their hands, the gang sets out.

They soon find themselves in a nearby, abandoned airfield. There, they find more of the mysterious glowing footprints. Very quickly the gang finds itself in hot pursuit of the creepy space kook. While on the airfield, Scooby and Shaggy find the mess hall and keep running into the Space Kook. Meanwhile, the Space Kook uses a hydraulic lift to hoist Fred up to the top of an airplane hanger and get him out of commission.

Daphne and Velman find Shaggy and get him to help Fred down. Once back together, the gang sees 4 or 5 of these aliens all out once. In a mad dash, Scooby and Shaggy end up in the flight control tower, where they find a sound system and projector. Just by luck, the Sheriff and the original old timer show up at the airfield looking for the gang. The Space Kook tries to hide in a wind tunnel, but Fred turns it on and blows the disguise away.

  • The Monster: Space Kook, which is a skeleton in a glowing space suit with an awful creepy laugh.
  • The Villian: Henry Bascombe
  • Why: Bascombe learned that the government was going to re-open the old airbase and expand it. Bascombe wanted to scare off neighbors so he could buy their land cheap and then sale it to the government.

Points of Interest:

There is no plan to capture the Space Kook and unlike most episodes, the gang did not meet the villian prior to the unmasking. So, Velma had no clue of the villian's identity.

On a personal note - this was one of the scariest Scooby Doo episodes for me as kid. That skeleton and creepy laugh were enough to indelibly leave its mark.
