There is a new Scooby Doo movie coming this fall and I am not referring to Scooby Doo and the Samurai Sword, which is scheduled to be released on March 31, 2009. No, I am talking about Scooby Doo 3. Yes, that's right there is a new Scooby Doo live action movie coming out in the fall of 2009 and its official title is Scooby Doo: the Beginning.
According to the buzz, it will be a prequel of Scooby Doo the Movie and Monsters Unleashed. According to the trailer, it is set before the gang knew one another. This, of course, raises a question about how the movie will deal with the character's childhood which is shown in the Pup Named Scooby Doo television show. I am assuming the movie will ignore most of that series (save your comments). However, the snippet about Daphne suggests to me that there may be some adoption of their childhood histories into the characters.
The story line for Scooby Doo the Beginning is how the gang comes together to solve their very first mystery. The scoop is that their high school is haunted and these misfits must come together, as a team, to solve the mystery. I am hoping Fred has a learner's permit.
The film is a joint production between Warner Brothers and Cartoon Network. The movie is to be released through Cartoon Network and then by WB on dvd. This is surprising move for Warner Brothers considering the huge success enjoyed by the two prior live action films.

While we know the film is to be directed by Brian Levant and that production started in August of 2008, the exact release date is currently unknown. According to sources, the cast will not be the familar faces from the first two live actions films, but a new cast. Rob Amell will star as Fred, Kate Melton will be Daphne, Nick Palatas as Shaggy and Frank Welker will provide the voice for Scooby Doo.
