A Night of Fright is No Delight is the sixteenth episode from the original Scooby Doo television show. Spoiler Alert - details of this Scooby Doo episode are below.
At some point in time, Scooby Doo had saved Colonel Beauregard Sanders from drowning in a pond. As a gesture of his gratitude, the good Colonel decided to leave part of his fortune to his cousins and Scooby Doo. When the gang arrives at the Colonel's mansion on a mysterious island to hear the will read, they find out that there is a catch. In order to receive a part of the inheritance, the cousins and Scooby Doo each must spend the night in Colonel Sander's castle. Of course, the castle just happens to be haunted.
As the gang settles in for the night, Scooby Doo decides to take a bath. While alone in the tub, the tub dumps Scooby down a hidden chute that takes Scooby to the basement. There he meets the phantom shadow. Scooby quickly exits and return to the room to find Fred and Shaggy. Fred and Shaggy don't believe Scooby. However, the gang soon hear a commotion from down the hall and discovers that the phantom shadow has paid a visit to one of the cousins, scaring him off the island. As the hours past, each of the cousins vanishes, until only Scooby is left. So the gang sets a trap to catch the phantom when it returns for Scooby.
Of course the trap does not work. Instead, Scooby, Shaggy, and Velma end up in underground cave where they find the Colonel's civil war collection of uniforms, weapons, and everything else. When they finally reunite with Fred and Daphne, the chase soon begins. There are a lot near misses, where the phantom shadow almost catches Scooby. Eventually, Fred comes up with a second plan. This time they are going to blow the phantom shadow into a washing machine. Although everything does not go as planned (as usual), the villians are caught and Scooby Doo inherits the entire fortune. The only problem - Colonel Sander's fortune is in worthless confederate money.
- The Monster: The Phantom Shadow
- The Villian: Creeps and Crawls, Attorneys at Law, who represented the estate of Colonel Beauregard Sanders
